Shannon Crowley

Shannon is a junior at Morristown High School (MHS) and lives in Morris Plains, New Jersey.  Like so many of our mentors, Shannon is deeply involved in her school, her church and her community.

Besides being a terrific swimmer and honor roll student, Shannon is a remarkable community leader.  Shannon has been recognized as an Academic All-Conference scholar as a varsity athlete at MHS.  She is the recruiting chairperson for the Future Business Leaders of America club at MHS and competes in their state tournament.  Shannon also mentors students in her school as a member of the Heroes and Cool Kids Clubs, going into grade school classrooms to teach anti bullying lessons along with lessons on the dangers of alcohol and drugs.

Shannon has swum competitively all of her life.  In her 3rd year swimming as a varsity athlete at MHS, she enjoys both individual and team events.  Shannon also continues to swim for the Greater Morristown YMCA team and competes in at the state level in backstroke.  This year she set personal records in all of her events.  During the summer, Shannon follows in her mom’s footsteps and works as a life guard at the Morris Plains pool.

For the past 4 summers, Shannon has joined a work crew for a week on Operation Appalachia.  Working on a crew led by her grandfather and members from her Notre Dame Church, Shannon builds ramps and walls for a very busy week of charity during her summer vacation.  The Crowley family has deep roots in giving in the Morris Plains community and they spend many Thanksgivings as a family delivering meals and working at a local homeless shelter.

As Shannon has noted, “sometimes I think I have tough issues in school or with friends but seeing what others have to deal with DAILY makes me appreciate that my problems are small.  I have seen some horrible poverty but I also know there are people willing to help.  I have learned some kids are different from me but they also spread a lot of smiles.”
